HTC Supreme: new name for the HTC Edge?

The HTC Edge is quite a prospect. Dual-core smart phones may be becoming more common, but the Edge is reportedly a quad-core behemoth. Or rather, the Supreme is.

HTC has put the name Supreme up for protection in Europe, Pocketnow reports, hinting the flagship quad-core beast could have a name change before release. It wouldn’t be the first time: codenames of HTC phones often leak, with the resultant handsets touching down under different guises.

There’s no shortage of other HTC devices that Supreme could refer to, of course. It could be the Quattro tablet, but considering that’ll also be quad-core, according to reports, that name seems to fit. Or it could be the HTC Ville, the Android Ice Cream Sandwich handset with Beats audio tech, but we think HTC would save a name like Supreme for a flagship device. And Europe’s first quad-core handset would certainly be that.

As well as an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, with a quite ridiculous four 1.5GHz cores, we’re expecting a 4.7-inch screen that’s 720p HD resolution. Inside, 1GB of RAM is looking likely, and on the back should be an 8-megapixel camera with a 28mm, f/2.2 lens.

Yesterday news broke HTC was working on a Facebook phone, to be named the HTC Buffy. Word is it’ll run a customised version of Android, tweaked by Facebook folks to bake social networking skills right into the phone. HTC has already made the HTC Salsa and the ChaCha, both of which have Facebook buttons for quick uploading.

We’re expecting to see the Supreme unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February, hopefully alongside the Quattro tablet, and Ville phone. Fingers crossed.

Could the Supreme blow the iPhone 4S out of the water? Or is it about more than just power? Let us know down in the comments or over on our Facebook page.
