Since you landed on this page, chances are you already know a little bit about the best VPNs on the market and you’re now on the hunt for the cheapest price. We’ve rounded up all of the best VPN deals we could find in order to help you find exactly that.

There are good reasons to use a virtual private network, too. For example, did you know your internet service provider amasses as much data as possible on your digital comings and goings? A 2021 Federal Trade Commission report noted that the leading ISPs have gathered user data on topics as personal as race, sexual orientation and real-time location. They’ve combined it, cross-referenced it and shared it with third-party partners. Yikes.

Thankfully, there’s an easy way to increase your online privacy and security: a VPN. In addition to providing a more secure and private “tunnel” to your online destination, a VPN can also let you virtually move your location to a different city or country — a nice bonus if you’re looking to get around local censorship laws or try out different slates of streaming media offerings in different locales.

The first thing we’ll remind you is that free VPN services aren’t worth the risk. For the most part, they’re playing that same game of scooping up and selling your data. The good news is there are some great VPN deals available right now with prices starting at less than $2 a month if you prepay for a year or two of service. We’ve tested a bunch of the market leaders and pulled together our recommendations for the best VPN deals below. Just keep a few things in mind:

  • Some of these offers have countdown clocks saying that the VPN deals are ending “today.” These are usually marketing tactics that have no relationship to the deal’s actual end date.
  • We will update sale prices when we notice a change, so be sure to check back often.
  • ZDNet Academy (purveyor of the KeepSolid VPN deal) is the in-house retailer of ZDNet, CNET’s sister site.
  • The VPN industry has undergone significant change in the past year, with all three of our top VPN choices announcing major changes in corporate ownership. In December, ExpressVPN announced that it had officially joined Kape Technologies, a company that already owns several other VPNs and has raised privacy concerns in the past. In February, NordVPN and Surfshark announced the two companies were merging, though they’ll continue to operate autonomously. We’ve since given ExpressVPN a fresh review and continue to update our reviews for Nord and Surfshark in light of these changes. Our rankings are likewise subject to change as they reflect our latest findings.
  • Most of these offers below are for subscriptions of two years or more, which is a long time to tie yourself to a service that could change ownership (see above) or terms of service, or even have a security incident. While most services have a 30-day free cancellation policy at the start, be sure to check the terms of service before signing up for a long-term commitment.

VPN deals: Tested and recommended

The VPNs in this first group are also among our current top five best VPN picks. As such, we can broadly recommend them — albeit with the noted caveats. That said, the fast-changing ownership landscape in the VPN space may continue to shake things up, but we will continue to update this as we uncover more.

Surfshark

Surfshark: $2.21 a month for 24 months (plus three free months)

Billed $60 upfront

Devices: Unlimited

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 30 days

Surfshark is a relative newcomer to the VPN space, but it’s quickly become known for its speed, which is why it’s one of our VPN experts’ top picks. Surfshark also supports unlimited devices, which is great for large households. If you pick up 24 months of Surfshark VPN right now, you’ll pay only $2.21 a month (billed at $59.76) while scoring three additional months at no extra cost. Note that Surfshark recently merged with rival NordVPN, though the companies have thus far continued to operate independently. Read our Surfshark review.

See at Surfshark

NordVPN

NordVPN: $3.09 a month for 24 months (plus three free months)

Billed $83 upfront

Devices: Up to six

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 30 days

An industry heavyweight and still one of CNET’s top picks, NordVPN is discounting its two-year subscription plan by over 60% and throwing in three months extra for free. Thanks to the discount, you’ll pay the equivalent of $3.09 per month (billed at $83.43 upfront) for 27 months of service making it one of the best value deals around. The one-year plan is also discounted, though not as steeply, at $4.99 per month. (Note, again, that NordVPN and Surfshark recently merged but have continued to operate autonomously so far.)

Read our NordVPN review.

IPVanish

IPVanish: $4 a month for 12 months

Billed $48 upfront

Devices: Unlimited

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 30 days

With one of the best user interfaces in the field, according to our reviewer, IPVanish is good for those who want to be able to customize settings and those who are new to a VPN. If this is your first time at the rodeo and want to know more about the technology, IPVanish is a reliable service with a gentle learning curve. Normally IPVanish goes for $90 a year, but this deal gets you a year of IPVanish for only $48 ($4 per month). This is one of the lowest-priced deals without a multiyear commitment. Note that IPVanish is owned by US-based Ziff Davis, which may be a concern if you’re a security-focused user. Read our IPVanish review.

ProtonVPN

ProtonVPN: $5 a month for 24 months

Billed $120 upfront

Devices: Up to 10

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 30 days

Go off the grid with ProtonVPN for $5 a month (billed at $120), good for two full years. ProtonVPN Plus (the paid plan) has no data caps or server switching limits. Its ease of use, Tor support and ad-blocking feature make ProtonVPN a favorite with many users. You may also opt for the single-year plan at $6 per month (billed at $72) or get the monthly plan for $10 a month. You can even try out ProtonVPN for free (with limits). To access the biggest savings, choose the two-year plan option. Read our ProtonVPN review.

See at ProtonVPN

ExpressVPN

ExpressVPN: $6.67 per month for 12 months (plus 3 free months)

Billed $100 upfront

ExpressVPN still tops our list of the best VPNs and you can make a bit of a saving on a subscription by going for its 12-month plan where you’ll snag an additional three months of service for free, dropping the equivalent monthly cost to just $6.67 (billed as $100 upfront). We evaluate VPNs based on their overall performance in three main categories: speed, security and price. Express isn’t the cheapest, but it’s among the fastest and, so far, is the most secure — even after its acquisition by Kape Technologies. Read our ExpressVPN review.

Additional VPN deals

We either haven’t fully tested the following VPNs, or have only tested them anecdotally. Thus we can only recommend them for casual use, such as bypassing geographic restrictions while streaming media.

KeepSolid VPN

KeepSolid VPN Unlimited: $40 for lifetime subscription on 5 devices

Upgrade to 10 devices for $60

Devices: Up to 5 (for $40) or 10 (for $60)

Refund policy: Refundable as store credit for 15 days after purchase if unused

KeepSolid’s unlimited plan costs $10 a month if you buy it directly from KeepSolid. Via ZDNet Academy — the in-house retailer of ZDNet, CNET’s sister site — you can get a lifetime subscription to VPN Unlimited for only $40. You can also upgrade to the 10 devices plan for only $20 more. We haven’t formally reviewed KeepSolid, but its privacy and no-log policies are generally in line with what we like. An earlier informal test drive we did included reflections on KeepSolid’s speed (but that test was conducted a while ago).

See at ZDNet Academy

PureVPN

PureVPN: $1.66 a month for a year

Billed $20 upfront

Devices: Up to 10

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 31 days

PureVPN presents another affordable option if you’re in the market for a simple VPN without a big price tag. With a solid server fleet of over 6,500 in 78 countries, PureVPN promises reliable service, although we haven’t had the chance to verify. Another thing to disclaim here: PureVPN was reported on by our sister site ZDNet as having provided timestamp-only logs to the FBI in a cyberstalking case back in 2018. PureVPN has since stopped the timestamp logging practice and undergone a third-party audit to ensure that it keeps to its no-log policy. There’s currently a deal priced at $1.66 a month for a year ($20 upfront) or you can opt for the a 24-month plan (plus three months free) at $2 per month.

See at PureVPN

Atlas VPN

Atlas VPN: $1.89 a month for 24 months (plus two months free)

Billed $49.19 upfront

Devices: Unlimited

Refund policy: Fully refundable for 30 days

Atlas VPN is a budget VPN aimed at casual users whose main requirements are video streaming and P2P file sharing. It has all the features you would expect from a VPN, such as strong encryption, a no-log policy and a network kill switch. Atlas VPN’s server fleet is currently stated to be around 700 across 28 countries, which is smaller than those of the major VPN providers. The service was acquired by rival NordVPN last year, so that may involve terms of service changes going forward. However, since we already like Nord, we’re hoping this is a step forward, not a step back. (Atlas offers a free version, though we always suggest you steer clear of those.) Use code ATLASWELCOME at checkout to get 24 months of Atlas VPN for under $2 a month ($49 upfront) and two months free.

OLED TVs are still leading the pack in terms of black level and contrast, but they don’t come cheap. Samsung’s QLED TVs are packed full of features (like local-dimming and smaller LEDs) that try to re-create the picture and color quality of their OLED brethren at a fraction of the price. To celebrate the release of its new 2022 Neo QLED TVs line, Samsung is handing out big discounts on last year’s models.

With most of us now well versed in the whole working remotely thing, many people are starting to realize that their family laptop from 2015 just isn’t cutting it anymore. That’s why PC sales are having their best year in a decade and the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down. PC-makers and retailers are taking advantage of the noise to clear out last year’s inventory to make room for the next-generation models announced at CES. That means there are big savings in store if you’re looking to upgrade this new year.

We’ve picked out a few models from the sale to suit a wide range of needs, but be sure to check out the full sales at Best Buy, Dell and HP to find your perfect laptop.

Dell G15 Special Edition Gaming Laptop with Nvidia RTX 3060

Save $55

Let’s face it, the pandemic has been rough on PC gamers. With the boom in cryptocurrency, the chances of any of us grabbing a 3000-series card from Nvidia at a reasonable price are still remote. If you need one this year, your best bet is to go with a prebuilt machine — and that’s where this Dell G15 comes in. Sporting an RTX 3060, this powerful laptop will not only let you game with some serious graphical horsepower, but it’s also more than capable for the most hardware-intensive work. The 15.6-inch, 165Hz display and Core i7 are nothing to laugh at either. Yes, you’re trading the power of a desktop for the portability of a laptop gaming rig. But with a desktop Nvidia RTX 3060 going for between $700 and $800 on eBay, the $1,550 price of this laptop is actually a bit of a bargain.

Configure your own Dell at its winter sale.

This story is part of Gift Guide, our year-round collection of the best gift ideas.

Update: Premium Plus is still $5.95 for the first three months. That’s $27 worth of savings.

Shorter days and cooler nights as autumn begins transitioning to winter make it the perfect season to cozy up to a warm fire with a nice book. So what are you waiting for? New listeners can take advantage of Audible’s end-of-year sale on Premium Plus, which is usually $14.95 a month.

Previously this deal listed Audible Premium Plus at $5.95 for the first three months plus $20 in Audible credit.

See it at Amazon

After that promo period, the service renews at its normal $14.95 monthly rate, but you can cancel it at any time. Former subscribers to Audible don’t qualify for this deal, which is good until Dec. 31.

Premium Plus is the plan that Audible is best known for. Each month during your subscription, you’ll get a credit to redeem toward any audiobook in its catalog, and once redeemed the book is yours to listen to (and listen to again) even after you’ve canceled your membership. You’ll also enjoy all the same content available to Audible Plus members, plus discounts at the Audible store. Since the launch of its Audible Plus plan last year, the Amazon-owned platform has bolstered its digital library with a healthy amount of podcasts, guided wellness content and Audible Originals.

So is it worth it? Well, at $6 a month you’ll get one free audiobook per month plus access to thousands of podcasts and other content through Audible. Premium Plus members also enjoy a pretty generous return policy: If you happen to purchase a book that you don’t enjoy, Audible will refund your credit. And the kicker is that liberal cancellation policy. You can terminate the subscription at any time should you change your mind.

This story is part of Gift Guide, our year-round collection of the best gift ideas.

Supply chain issues mean many retailers are struggling to keep shelves stocked for the holiday. With shortages affecting the entire world, Black Friday sales might not be as hot as they once were. One thing that isn’t being hit as hard is the secondary market. So if you’re shopping for gifts this year, consider buying them second-hand. Like at Abt Electronics, where you can find up to 45% off open-box, returns or display items. This LG soundbar is only $148 (reg. $277) and so is this Garmin Vivoactive 4S. Free shipping is available on most items.

Long before I was environmentally conscious, I was wallet-conscious. That’s why I’ve always bought renewed electronics. You can get the latest and greatest at a huge discount plus you don’t have to deal with the annoying packaging that’ll end up in a landfill. Best of all, most renewed items will get an actual inspection before they’re shipped to your door. All of Abt’s outlet items have been fully inspected by its technicians. They also come with a full manufacturer warranty and free returns.

Here are some of the best deals that I’ve picked out, but be sure to check out the catalog yourself. Be sure to click on the display and returns options to get the lowest price and double check if your purchase qualifies for free shipping.

When it comes to tech, waiting a year or two after a device’s initial release can net you a huge discount on purchases. On top of that, shopping refurbished might be the most cost-effective way to upgrade your electronics. This is twice as true when it’s being refurbished by the original manufacturer with certified parts and has a one-year warranty. That’s why this offer from Samsung is worth the spotlight. When you purchase any renewed phone in the Galaxy S20 line, you’ll get a free pair of Galaxy Buds 2 (a $150 value). Plus, you can score an even bigger saving when you trade in an older phone.

By trading my old 2019 Galaxy S10, I can get an unlocked and renewed Galaxy S20 5G for $300 plus a free pair of Galaxy Buds 2, making the phone effectively $150 out the door. That’s a premium 5G phone with a solid camera and “stuffed with top-shelf features,” according to CNET’s Jessica Dolcourt, for only 15% of the original $999 release price. Read CNET’s eview of the Samsung Galaxy S20.

Whether you’re looking for a more private browsing experience or looking to expand your international streaming options, VPN usage is on the rise. And now you can snag a 12-month subscription to one of our favorite services for a great price. Now through Aug. 31, get a year’s worth of NordVPN service $47.20 when you use code NORD20 at checkout through ZDNet Academy. That’s less than $4 per month, or a savings of 20% off the current $59 annual price.

Full disclosure: ZDNet Academy is a partnership between CNET’s sister site ZDNet and its retail partner Stacksocial.

NordVPN boasts competitive speeds, privacy-friendly RAM-disk servers and feature-rich software across all major platforms, including Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac and Amazon Fire Stick (to name just a few). It also offers support for DD-WRT-compatible routers and Raspberry Pis for more advanced setups.

NordVPN’s security was called into question in 2019 when reports emerged that a rented server was accessed without authorization. It has since run multiple audits, beefed up its bug bounty program and invested heavily into security in order to regain consumers’ trust. Because of those recent improvements, it remains in our top trio of best VPNs

What’s an eSIM?

An embedded subscriber identification module, or eSIM, allows you to connect your phone to a cellular network. Unlike removable SIM cards, an eSIM is already built into your newer mobile phone. Amazon on Friday launched a new promotion for its Amazon Music Unlimited service. Prime members can now enjoy up to six months of Disney Plus for free when they sign up with Amazon Music Unlimited, which costs $8 a month. Read on for details on how you can qualify.

What is Amazon Music Unlimited?

Not to be confused with Amazon Prime Music, which only lets you access 2 million songs and is included with a Prime membership, Amazon Music Unlimited’s library contains up to 70 million songs, supports major podcasts, is ad-free and allows for offline downloads. It is essentially Amazon’s version of Spotify.

How do you qualify for free Disney Plus?

This offer is available to Amazon Prime Members only (trial here). The important thing to note is that you must not be a current subscriber to Disney Plus. Amazon won’t accept existing Disney Plus customers, so prepare to make a new account. Head to this page to start the process. When you sign up as a new subscriber to Amazon Music Unlimited ($8 per month), Amazon will redirect you to the Disney Plus sign-up page, where you must make a new account and enter payment information.

The first six months of Disney Plus are free, after which you will be charged the monthly rate ($12 per month) if you don’t cancel. Current and former Amazon Music Unlimited customers can also access this deal, but they will only get three months of Disney Plus comp.

If you cancel your Amazon Music Unlimited subscription while under the promotional period, you will be charged for Disney Plus. So make sure to drop both plans (via separate cancellation) if you decide to opt out. A little confusing, but at $12-a-month for Disney Plus, doing the $8-a-month for Amazon Music Unlimited-Disney Plus combo will net you a saving of $24 over six months. If you don’t currently have a music service subscription, this is a no-brainer deal.

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to find the best deals.

Amazon Prime Day ended Tuesday night, but Walmart kept its “Deals for Days” event going strong through Wednesday. That one is now history too, but there are a handful of solid deals still available. There’s no telling when these straggler deals will expire, so if you see something you want, grab it up fast.

Walmart

Gateway 15.6-inch Ultra Slim Notebook: $399

You save $350

The Gateway brand has returned to life at Walmart with a line of ultra-affordable laptops. This one features a 1080p screen that’s nearly 16 inches, an Intel Core i5 processor, a built-in fingerprint scanner, HDMI and USB-C ports and — most impressively — 16GB of RAM. Not too shabby for under $450.

$399 at Walmart

David Carnoy/CNET

Beats Solo Pro: $149

You save $151

If you’re looking for the noise-canceling feature of the AirPods Max but are not a fan of the price tag, you gotta jump on these Beats Pro Solo. Originally retailing at $300, these headphones are now half off at Walmart. Featuring the familiar look of the Solo3, the Solo Pro headphones get a few improvements such as the addition of a metal band and memory foam earpads for a much comfier fit than the preceding model. The new drivers inside produce a sound that is, according to CNET’s David Carnoy, “smooth and well-balanced with punchy bass that isn’t boomy.”

The inclusion of Apple’s H1 chip means that the Beats Solo Pro will pair easily with Apple devices just like AirPods. Android users can get this feature via app. Note: These headphones only charge via Lightning port and don’t come with a cable or adapter to be used as a wired headset. Previously an issue at full price, but we can be more forgiving when they’re half off. Lastly these are also compatible with Apple Spatial Audio, released last week, if you happen to subscribe to Apple Music.

This assistant does everything from telling you the weather to play your favorite tunes just by asking “Hey Google.” It won’t get you coffee but there’s always Keurig to help with that. CNET’s own Andrew Gebhart gave this smart home display a big thumbs up in his full review of the Google Nest Hub. You can snatch one up now for $20 off during Walmart’s Prime Day counter-sale.

Roborock S4 Max Robot: $310

You save $120

Robot vacuums can be pretty hit-or-miss. Most entry-level models only have basic navigation and can end up stuck in one corner of your house. The Roborock S4 Max negates that flaw with futuristic lidar navigation and smart room mapping. That’s right, the same technology that automates self-driving cars can now help pick up your mess. Jokes aside, the Roborock S4 Max does have some pretty amazing features. Like the ability to map the layout of your house. You can set no-go zones via the app without the need for a physical fencing system that will clutter up your home. The scheduling function lets you designate the time and specific room you want it to clean, keeping it out of your way while ensuring an immaculate household. The suction power is rated at a respectable 2,000 pascals and the long-lasting battery promises up to 3,000 square feet of cleaning. The S4 model is on sale now for only $310, which is a bit pricier than the cheapest robot vacuum out there, but it sports many features of much higher-end competitors.

Kamado Joe

Kamado Joe Jr. 13.5-inch Charcoal Grill: $299 (Update: Expired)

You save $200

Kamados are great grills, able to accomplish pretty much anything you’d want from a grill — and with a little skill and practice, they can easily outperform your ordinary gas grill. Kamado Joe’s charcoal grills are some of our favorites, but they can cost upward of a thousand bucks — which makes this discounted Jr. version all the more enticing.

Bissell

Bissel slim corded stick vacuum: $99

You save $100

I upgraded to a light and maneuverable stick vacuum last year and I’ve never enjoyed vacuuming so much. I’d never really enjoyed it all before if I’m being honest. I’ve poked around and $99 is a very good price for a stick vacuum with good power and a trusted name behind it. The only drawback of this one is that it’s not cordless but has a very long 27-foot cord so you won’t be searching for new outlets all afternoon.

Google Pixel Buds 2: $79 (Update: Expired)

You save $100

The recently released Pixel Buds A-Series ($99) earbuds are supposed to be the more affordable alternative to the Pixel Buds 2, Google’s popular wireless earbuds. For a lower price, the plastic-construction Buds A-Series don’t have the Buds 2’s swipe controls or alert features. But right now at Walmart you can actually get the more premium Buds 2 for $20 less than the A-Series. Yes, you can get Google’s popular Pixel Buds 2 for only $79 during the Deals for Days sale. If you’re planning on using these for outdoor activities, the wind reduction and attention alerts are features not to miss out on.

Apple’s iPads usually don’t see huge discounts, even during big sales events. But this is a solid deal for the iPad Mini, and it’s cheaper than competitors like Amazon currently list it.

Instant Pot

Instant Pot Viva 6-quart multicooker: $59 (Update: Expired)

You save $40

The Instant Pot Viva is an offshoot of the popular Duo model with the addition of sous vide and cake-making (!) options, according to Instantpotology. It does just about everything you’d want or need a multicooker to do including steam, sterilize, porridge, warm and yogurt. The 6-quart size is the most popular: It’s large enough to cook for groups but not so huge that you’ll find it difficult to store. It also has OverHeat Protection, a safety lock to ensure safe pressure cooking.

Apple AirPods Pro: $197 (Update: Expired)

Save $52 vs. Apple Store

The AirPods Pro are jumping all over the place price-wise but right now they’re down $23 at Walmart. It’s not the lowest we’ve seen but it’s still a nice savings of $52 off the Apple Store price for some of our favorite earbuds ever.
